  1. Accomplished film-making but it's a bizarre old story. Predictable but intense and enjoyable. The characters are not boring. The monster is the man. The cleaning lady is the hero. Rapunzel rescues the fish dood. Lots of thoughtful inversion going on here.

Performances are outstanding. Camerawork is very sophisticated, lots of crane shots and subtle changes in angle. Set design and lighting is unattractive and harsh but maybe it's supposed to be.

There's no exposition about the provenance, or the fate , or the nature of the creature (other than 'it came from the Amazon'. The one thing this movie is not is SF.
