The Dig is a 2021 British drama film directed by Simon Stone, based on the 2007 novel of the same name by John Preston, which reimagines the events of the 1939 excavation of Sutton Hoo.

This was great. Well made and performed. Really dramatic setting. Some truly magic scenes toward the end. Very satisfying and good to watch. (Some strange divergences from reality with several characters but that's movies...)

Top movie.

A competent biopic about a remarkable character in an ugly, challenging social situation. Performances are good. The plot is clear. Importantly it demonstrates what is wrong with the rotten white supremacist ideal.

I feel that this movie bears comparison to La Vie En Rose (a biopic about Edith Piaf, the French singer/legend who died young). This movie is much more sympathetic to its subject but does not shy away from controversy. Billie is shown in jail and using drugs. La Vie En Rose adroitly clipped Nazi collaboration from its story.

So this wins.
