A very 70's production. 'Blockbuster' cast, simple vanilla direction, the music is clunky, the sound mix is crude. In general production values (particularly cinematography) are dissatisfying. The film looks grainy. The film is shot in Panavision with ambient light resulting in a washed out, grey looking image. This looks like a cheap film but is regarded as a major production for some reason. The cast is largely phoning it in. Albert Finney as Poirot is boorish, unfussy and unconvincing. Quite unlike the intended character. It seems we have been watching David Suchet as Poirot too much lately and have been spoiled. Other actors are phoning it in or over the hill, tired, fading stars. Gielgud is good. Connery looks like he's asleep. ABM Rating 1.5/3
