First Man is a 2018 American biographical drama film directed by Damien Chazelle and written by Josh Singer. Based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen, the film stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, alongside Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Ciarán Hinds, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit, and Lukas Haas, and follows the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon in 1969.

An intimate, close, introverted take on what it means and what it costs to excel. There's no patriotic flagwaving in this. Despite what some Philistine American politicians have said about it, it is actually a testament to the fact that when it really matters you want reliable, nerdy, hardworking, thorough experts on duty, not showy BS artists.

Another good aspect was the CGI views of the moonscape and the spacecraft manouvers. Many of these are recorded for posterity by grainy, low res B&W films which are mostly very familiar. But frequently they don't really show what is happening. In this movie that imagination is given exercise and appears on the screen.
